Nanny / Family Work Agreement or Nanny Contract

We strongly suggest that every employer complete a comprehensive nanny / family work agreement before the nanny begins work.  This allows both parties to review and agree to the final details of the employment relationship and the expectations for the caregiving environment.  This small investment of time and energy will pay off time and time again.  Click here to check out our popular A to Z Nanny Contract.

Performance Reviews

Every employer, regardless of how wonderfully things are going, should give her nanny a performance review every 3 or 4 months during the first year and every 6 or 12 months in subsequent years.  These reviews offer both employer and employee a built-in opportunity to address issues that that might not otherwise come up until they become real problems.  A detailed performance review outline gives the parent and the nanny the chance to highlight high performance areas and discuss areas that need improvement in both caregiving performance and the nanny / family relationship.

Brownie Points  If your nanny is doing a good job, tell her.  Don’t assume that she knows you’ve noticed.  Many times nannies feel that the things they do throughout the day go unnoticed and unappreciated.  The employer that takes the time to verbalize her appreciation is the one a nanny feels loyal to and stays with over the long haul.
